What Plates does well
Plates nails the core idea that even splits are unfair when one person had the steak and another had a side salad. The plate-by-plate assignment is friendly and visual, it's free, and — its real advantage — it plugs into Splitwise. If your group already keeps a running Splitwise ledger, Plates lets a restaurant night flow into the balances you already track, and settling happens wherever it already happens for your group.
Where the experiences diverge
Two places. First, getting the bill in: Plates is manual entry — you type or pick the dishes.
