Receipt splitting app
Tab Tender is a free receipt splitting app for the table. Scan the receipt, tap who had what, and it splits every item with tax and tip handled for you. Then send everyone a tap-to-pay link. No download required, and the friends paying you never need an account.
Scanning and auto-import use a free account. Splitting by hand and sharing pay links work as a guest with no sign-up.
How the receipt splitter works
Scan the receipt. Snap a photo or paste a digital receipt link and the scanner reads the items, prices, tax, and tip. The photo stays attached to the tab as proof for everyone on it.
Tap who had what. Assign each line to the person (or people) who ordered it. Tax, tip, and service split in proportion to each person's items, so nobody subsidizes a bigger order.
Share the link. Everyone sees their exact share and pays you with one tap through Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, PayPal, and more. You get pinged as money lands.
What it can read
The scanner is built for real-world receipts, not just clean PDFs:
- A photo or PDF of a paper restaurant or bar receipt, including crumpled and angled shots.
- Digital receipt links from Toast, Square, and SkyTab, read line by line with tax, tip, and surcharges pulled in.
- A screenshot of a delivery-app order from Uber Eats, DoorDash, or Grubhub, with fees brought in as a service charge.
- A handwritten or cash bar tab you type in by hand when there is no printed receipt.
Why split by receipt instead of evenly
An even split is quick, but it quietly overcharges whoever ordered less. When one person had a steak and two cocktails and another had a salad and water, splitting down the middle is not fair. Reading the receipt and assigning each item means everyone pays for what they actually had, with tax and tip spread proportionally rather than divided flat.
Doing that by hand is the fiddly part, which is exactly what Tab Tender automates the moment the receipt is scanned.
Just need the math?
If you only want a quick even split with tax and tip and do not need to scan anything, use the bill split calculator. To split by item from the receipt, start a tab.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a receipt splitting app?
- A receipt splitting app reads the line items off a receipt and lets each person claim what they actually ordered, so the bill is split by item instead of evenly. Tab Tender pulls in the items, prices, tax, and tip from a photo or a digital receipt link, then works out exactly what each person owes.
- How do you split a bill from a receipt?
- Take a photo of the itemized receipt (or paste a digital receipt link), let the app read the items, then tap who had each one. Tax, tip, and any service charge are spread in proportion to what each person ordered, and everyone gets their own total to pay.
- Do my friends need to download anything?
- No. You scan the receipt and share one link or a QR code. The people paying you open it in a browser, see their share, and pay with a tap. No app install and no account required for them.
- Which receipts can it read?
- A photo or PDF of a paper restaurant or bar receipt, a screenshot of a delivery-app order (Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub), and digital receipt links from Toast, Square, and SkyTab. Handwritten checks can be typed in by hand.
- Is Tab Tender free?
- Yes. Splitting a bill is free with no per-day limit. Receipt scanning (the itemized lines, tax, and tip) and Toast or Square import are free too, with a free account. Splitting by hand and sharing pay links work as a guest with no account.
